What Classes Should You Explore First?
Gentle Hatha & Basic Vinyasa are great classes to start with. If you are working with injuries or need a very chill, stress-relieving yoga, check out Restorative.
I had spent a lot of time researching different yoga studios throughout Portland and have attended a few classes here and there. None of them had the right feel for me. I found Escape to Yoga originally when I was considering signing up for ClassPass, but decided I wanted to focus on my yoga practice and try the $30 for 30 Days trial instead. I'm so glad I did. The Benefits of Practicing Yoga
While yoga is renowned for helping us become more compassionate and centered humans, many people try yoga for its more tangible benefits. People often experience an enhanced sense of peace and calm after their first class. After a surprisingly short few weeks of practice, you will begin to notice increased flexibility, overall strength, improved balance and a marked improvement in your stress levels and posture. Walking taller and ditching the slouch have an undeniable effect on your sense of wellbeing. The benefits of yoga compound and grow exponentially the longer you practice, which is why we like to offer a month for new yogis to truly explore the studio and the practice.
From beginners unrolling their mats for the first time, to seasoned yogis, Escape to Yoga is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming and friendly environment for you to explore yoga.
I have never practiced yoga before. Which class should I start with?
We recommend that most people start out with a Basic Hatha, or Gentle Hatha class. These classes are tailored towards beginners and practitioners who seek a patient, mindful, and accessible approach towards improving overall fitness, mobility, and balance. Practitioners who are addressing specific physical issues such as arthritis, healing from injury, or lack of recent physical activity, may want to start off with our Gentle Hatha classes. Restorative classes are deeply relaxing and suitable for everyone.
What should I bring & wear?
Most people practice yoga barefoot. Wear clothing that is comfortable and allows a full range of motion. We keep the studio at about 72-74 degrees. If this is cool for you, please bring additional layers. All equipment required for classes is provided by Escape to Yoga. However, it is recommended that anyone planning a regular practice purchase their own yoga mat.
I am not flexible, strong or particularly fit, which class is right for me?
Yoga is for you no matter your age, size or ability! The key is finding the right class. A good starting point is always Basic Hatha.
